tragedy. deceit. romance. four clans in peril after a disasterous fire rips through their forest. shadeclan elders remember the destruction, but for the young it is merely a story retold around the fresh-kill pile. the world is changing all-around, but life can't grow in the burnt forest, and shadeclan's future remains uncertain.
timberclan is tired of shadeclan's unforgiving memories. every gathering is the same - blaming timerclan and fogclan for abandoning them in their time of need. while galeclan continues to carve up their territory, arguments within the clan begin - when does it become about the individual and not the group?
and so the leader of timberclan proposes a new rule, a rule erasing the final warrior code: every clan must put themselves above all else, even at the cost of unity of the forest. and as shadeclan protests, votes from a reluctant galeclan and agreeable fogclan solidify the decision.
with protection of the survival of all four clans removed from the code, the cats of the forest must re-define what makes a warrior's heart.
within the ruin of an old, burned redwood forest lies shadeclan camp. it consists of a large collection of boulders that once was known as three boulder valley. since the original shadeclan camp burned down, the clan has migrated to this spot. there are many dens and burrows for each group of cats, and it is well-protected by a wild rose grove that grew around the perimeter.
although there is not much left of the forest since the fire one hundred moons ago, shadeclan still finds ways to hunt in a desolate environment. the soot on the ground is useful for covering scents during hunting. because most shadeclanners sport darker coats already, they blend in well with the blackened landscape.
nestled right beside the foggy lake, fogclan's camp has been dug out by warriors over many years. it is a circular environment, stamped down and widened as the clan grows larger. the entire perimeter is large, plumed reeds that have grown so thick that not even a single warrior can pull them down.
the air is shrouded in a thick layer of mist, hence the namesake of the clan. the ground is fairly flat, with pockets of water separating the marshy landscape. there are no trees apart from brush that have grown out of such bracken waters. because of this, territory markers are few. the same river fogclan lives near is the border between fogclan and galeclan, and it is where the mist ends.
galeclan camp is beside another large boulder, much like shadeclan. the rock is used as a lookout point and a nest for kits. the apprentices sleep in a thick bush of ryegrass while warriors scatter along the outside perimeter of the clan. the leader sleeps in the center, along with the deputy. while there isn't a lot of cover, the thickness of the grass makes it hard to see enemies and vice versa.
a full and nearly empty meadow, galeclan lives in a paradise where the sun always shines and clouds rarely pass through. thick bouquets of daisies, lavender, and ryegrass scatter the landscape. there are several large trees that give the clan shelter, but their carefree attitude brings them little concern for trespassers. galeclan is bordered by timberclan along the eastern side, and fogclan is on the opposite side of the deep gully river that cuts through the meadow and into shadeclan.
located in the heart of the pine forest, timberclan is the only group that still lives in the woods. at one point they shared the forest with shadeclan but now they have exclusive rights to the woodlands. their territory is nestled in a grove of four trees that are surrounded by large boulders. the ground is sandy and soft, and timberclan has made their dens out of twigs and mud.
the large pine forest offers perfect cover for timberclan. protected from the elements, the forest remains fairly dry and quiet. they also have attained a part of the river which fogclan and galeclan prosper by, but theirs borders shadeclan. there is a direct break when the fruitful forest ends and the charred, burned trees begin. timberclan cats are not to cross this threshold.
traditionally, to the furthest eastern point of timberclan and shadeclan territory sits a hollow with four, tall redwood trees that create a circle where gatherings are held. galeclan must cross through timberclan and shadeclan territory to get there, and fogclan must walk through shadeclan territory, a dangerous quest now that clan alliances are tense.
fogclan has a part of the ocean as their territory, but there is another piece of territory in between shadeclan and fogclan that remains unclaimed. right by the beach, looking out into the setting sun is the gathering spot for medicine cats and where leaders come to claim their lives and name. a cat must put their paw in the current of the ocean, close their eyes, and allow their spirit to be dragged into the sea to join with starclan.
on the other side of the fence that runs through shadeclan is the twolegsplace, where kittypets, loners and rogues tend to keep to themselves. it is not easy to get to, and one must jump into the trees to reach the top of the fence. the area stretches as far as the eye can see and no cat has truly discovered the entire place.
timberclan never bothered to claim this land, but a small oak forest grows on the western side of their territory. the entire area is green, covered in moss, ferns, and other shade-requiring plants. it is absolutely beautiful and there are so many trees that the sounds of birds chirping creates a longstanding echo through the forest.
